August 22 Regatta Update
ROBBIE MANSON, FINN HAMILL TO RACE AT THE 2025 HEAD OF THE HOUSATONIC
New Haven RC is pleased to announce that three-time Olympian and 2017 world champion sculler Robbie Manson and 2024 Head of the Charles and 2025 Henley Royal Regatta champion Finn Hamill have committed to race at the 2025 Head of the Housatonic on Sat.-Sun. Oct. 11-12.
Manson and Hamill will be available to meet regatta participants for photos, autographs, and training tips on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Manson is a New Zealand and world rowing legend, having represented his home country at the London, Rio de Janeiro, and Paris Olympics and medaled at the 2015 and 2017 rowing world championships. He has entered the Head of the Housatonic in the Open 2x event with his brother Karl as a tuneup race for the 2025 Head of the Charles Regatta.
Hamill comes to the Head of the Housatonic for the second time, following a remarkable 12 months of rowing in which he won the Championship 1x at the 2024 Head of the Charles, the Double Sculls Challenge Cup at the 2025 Henley Royal Regatta and, in the 2025 Diamond Challenge Sculls event at Henley, defeated Olympic bronze medal winner Simon van Dorp and reigning Olympic gold medalist Olli Zeidler before falling to Melvin Twellaar in the final. Each singles race was his second of the day after his doubles event. He is currently training to compete in the 2x event at the World Rowing Championships in Shanghai next month.
"We are thrilled to have Finn back at the Head of the Housatonic, and honored to welcome Robbie and Karl to our regatta for the first time," said New Haven Rowing Club President Matt Broder. "They will set a very high standard for our open sculling events and we know that young racers will enjoy getting the chance to meet them and learn more about how to grow and thrive as competitive rowers."
The Head of the Housatonic takes place Oct. 11-12 at Indian Well State Park in Shelton, Connecticut, with a slate of 78 events for high school, college, club, masters, and para rowers. Registration is open now on RegattaCentral.
July 17 Regatta Update
The good people at Vespoli USA Inc. have agreed to provide rental shells onsite for crews unable to transport their own equipment to the Head of the Housatonic Regatta. Teams or individuals interested in this option can contact the company directly at info@vespoli.com.
Thank you to Vespoli USA for this great opportunity!
With a two-day schedule place for the first time, and after consulting with many longstanding friends of the regatta, the New Haven Rowing Club has updated the Head of the Housatonic to make it even more appealing to coaches, athletes, and spectators. Among the changes this year:
Full slate of junior novice races: singles, doubles, quads, coxed fours, and eights
No caps on entries
Redesigned schedule that allows more athletes to race twice
Less crowded venue with collegiate and masters rowers (Saturday) and junior rowers (Sunday)
Two new para events: PR3 doubles and Inclusive doubles (M, W, Mx)
Dedicated scholastic events (Men’s/Women’s varsity fours and eights)
Dedicated scholastic entry medals (Men’s/Women’s novice fours and eights)
Redesigned medals with gold, silver, and bronze awarded in every event regardless of the number of entries
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of athletes and spectators to our upgraded regatta this fall,” said New Haven Rowing Club President Matt Broder. “We are grateful to our longtime friends who engaged with us to develop key regatta enhancements, and we are eager to provide great racing, good fun, and a delightful fall experience to the rowing community.”
