Learn-to-Row Program 2008 The New Haven Rowing Club will be running a learn-to-row program this year which will incorporate several changes designed to improve the learning process and produce rowers sufficiently skilled to be able to race in some of the fall regattas. The program faculty is headed by Nicholas Lee, a former National Team rower and currently a coach in the Heavyweight Men's Crew program at Yale University. Nich will be assisted by several experienced members of the New Haven Rowing Club who have past coaching experience. Program Structure CLASS SCHEDULE -- Rain or Shine, We ROW! If there are thunderstorms, you will be coached on our indoor rowing machines ("ergs")! July: Classes consist of 16 sessions (1.5 hrs each) over 3 weeks, meeting 4 times per week. July 7 - 31, 2008: Monday through Thursday - 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. Class Size: Minimum 8; maximum 20 Cost: $240 Submit application with payment by June 30, 2008 to the address above. Fees are $100 for students who desire to become coxswains instead of rowers (coxswains steer the boats and call out commands). Please contact the Webmaster if you desire to become a coxswain. August: Follow up classes - schedule to be announced at a later date. WHAT TO WEAR: Just a T-shirt, shorts, socks, and old sneakers or boat shoes will do. Shorts should be reasonably tight-fit, similar to bike shorts (loose-fit shorts can get caught in the boat's sliding seats). Caps or visors, sun glasses, sun-screen, etc. are your choice. PARKING at the BOATHOUSE: Parking is readily available on the upriver side of the boathouse. No parking is allowed along Route 34 (Roosevelt Drive). APPLICATION FORMS: 1. Class Application Form* - mail the completed form, along with a check for $240 payable to "New Haven Rowing Club", to the address above, marked to "Attention, LTR Coordinator". Space is limited and your check secures a place on the waiting list. If we cannot fit you in to this year's class, we will refund your payment. 2. Swim Test Form* -- bring the signed form to the first class (keep a copy for your records). You may take the test at our dock prior to the first class, but we recommend taking it at a local YMCA or health club beforehand. The YMCAs are very obliging, but they ask you to call ahead to arrange a time. Our safety rules require this test. 3. Waiver Form* - you can sign this form when you arrive at the first class. If you have any questions, contact Susan Schofield, 203-262-6633. Please contact the learn-to-row Coordinator to inform them of your interest and to get answers to any questions. Open House The rowing club will be holding an open house on Saturday, June 21 from 9:00am to 1:00pm at the boathouse for those who are interested in seeing the facilities and talking to members. * You will need Adobe's free
